Meditation: The Art of Letting Go

I was doing a search on meditation to see what I could come up..after viewing all the meditation mats, balls, chanting beads, and attire One could purchase for this Spiritual activity, I couldnt help but wonder; When does the Meditation takes place? Being simple me, my philosphy is Less is More; though Im not against these items, I dont completely understand the need for them as well...

I guess I was brought up to believe that mediation is about letting go of everything and focusing on nothing...simply put...

Like I mentioned before Im not against the buying of meditative 'tools', just cant help thinking, if I dont have a yoga mat or big ball, can I meditate just as effective??

If Im not burning imported incense, and burning non-lead wick candles, can I still focus?

If Im sitting outside or in my vehicle instead of prop up on a floor pillow, can I still be in meditative mood?

If conversating with the Divine (prayer) is free, why cant listening (meditation) to the Divine be as well..

With all this 'new age' technology, all the tapes, cds, dvds, lectures, and seminars on meditation, Im impressed that meditation have become so 'popular' in the West, though for some reason or another, its losing something at the same time...

I still feel meditation is more than aquiring more goods, its about losing the ego and ridding ourselves of unnecessary clutter (mentally)its about listening to the heart and following it...its about healing and reflecting on the Divine within so we can easily see the Divine in others...its about letting go...

To Meditate requires Nothing,

in fact once One master this Divine art,

One will come to realize,

there isnt any need for ourselves either...

As the Wise Rumi has so beautifully put;

If you could get rid of yourself

just once, the secret of secrets

would open to you.

The Face of the Unknown

Hidden beyond the universe,

would appear on the

Mirror of your perception.
